A national conference on preventing sexually transmitted diseases that is being held this week in Florida and backed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) conspicuously lacked any mention of abstinence education -- until a member of Congress complained.
Rep. Mark Souder, R-Ind, said he visited the CDC's Web site and was amazed to find no one speaking in favor of abstinence education at the 2006 National STD Prevention Conference in Jacksonville. How does one assure themselves of not getting an S.T.D.? Don’t have sex!
