What in the world is going on in this world? Wars, famines, earthquakes, civil unrest, hurricanes and tornadoes, diseases (i.e. aids and malaria), nuclear threats, terrorists attacks and so much more. Well, here is something to think about! Can you picture heaven? We celebrated Christ’s resurrection on April 16 th 2006. What does Christ’s resurrection mean to you and me? Jesus, our Creator, came into this world born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, suffered severe beatings, died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead to provide mankind with eternal life. How do you and I obtain this eternal life? Simply believe what Jesus said; it’s all in the Bible. In eternity there will be no more pain, sickness, wars, terrorists etc. Come and follow Jesus the Christ; He is the one and only Savior.

JESUS vs. Dan Brown and the Da Vinci Code

Summary:

• According to the Da Vinci Code, the Bible as we know it today -- along with Jesus’ divinity -- was fabricated at the Council of Nicea for political reasons. The authentic accounts of Jesus were destroyed. However, there is not a shred of evidence for these claims. According to those actually present at Nicea -- Eusebius and Athanasius in particular -- Christ’s deity was the reason for Nicea, not the result of it.
• Writings from the first three centuries are replete with references to Jesus’ divinity. Even the heretical Gnostics and the Modalists got this detail right.
• The New Testament Canon was never an issue at Nicea because the legitimacy of the four gospels had been decided centuries before. The Gnostic Gospels that Brown supports like Thomas, Mary, and Philip -- were not.
• None of the canonical Gospels report the most climatic event of the century, the fall of Jerusalem in 70 A.D., strong evidence each was completed before then within decades, not centuries, of the crucifixion.
• No evidence suggests the New Testament evolved over time through countless translations and revisions. Instead, the academic analysis shows it to be the most reliable document from antiquity.

PLAYING SHERLOCK :

You don’t need to be a scholar to beat Brown at his game. Do your own historical sleuthing. The primary source material is available to virtually anyone, especially if you have access to the internet. Nothing is hidden or suppressed. Many of the ancient documents are available on Amazon.com or can simply be “Googled.”

In the Anti-Nicene Fathers you’ll Find ten full volumes of primary source documentation from before the Council of Nicea (available in hardbound or on the internet) affirming the early belief that Jesus was the Son of God. These include Against Heresies, the vigorous refutation of Gnosticism by Irenaeus of Lyon (ca. 125-202), and Against Praxeal (c.208), a polemic by Tertullian against modalism and in defense of the Trinity.

Dan Brown has not done his homework. He is simply mistaken in his assessment of the New Testament documents. The biblical records actually show more textual integrity than any other of the works of antiquity that historians like Sir Leigh Teabing must rely on to ply their trade. The Bible has not been changed. The claim that it has is nothing more than urban legend.

IS THE BIBLE RELIABLE?

Dr. W. F. Albright, late professor emeritus of John Hopkins University, declared, “There can be no doubt that archeology has confirmed the substantial historicity of Old Testament tradition.”

Millar Burrows of Yale stated: “......archaeological work has unquestionably strengthened confidence in the reliability of the scriptural record.......This is a real contribution and not to be minimized.” For example: The discovery of the Ebla archive in northern Syria in the 1970s has shown the Biblical writings concerning the Patriarchs to be viable.

Documents written on clay tablets from around 2300 B.C. demonstrate that personal, places and names in the Patriarchal accounts are genuine. A dig in 1923 discovered, without doubt, Ur of the Chaldees (In southern Iraqi). Also found were clay tablets with Biblical names of that era. A few miles from Ur an inscribed foundation stone was found, laid by a king of unknown name, of the first Dynasty of Ur, which the scribes speak of as the third dynasty after “Noah’s” Flood.

THE LIFE OF CHRIST

Did Jesus study in India for the “missing” 18 years of His life and then bring back a message reflecting eastern religious thought? There is no historical information whatsoever that places Jesus in India. Most “documentation” comes from psychic messages (e.g. The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus Christ and the readings of Edgar Cayce) which conflict with each other. The only evidence that even claims to be historical was supposedly viewed by Nicolas Notovich in 1887 in a monastery in Tibet. However, the alleged scrolls about the prophet Issa have never been produced and the monks who were supposed to have them denied any knowledge of either the scrolls or Notovich.

The Gospels teach Jesus stayed in Israel. Our best historical accounts strongly imply that Jesus stayed with his family the entire time He grew up, as would be expected of a young Jewish lad.

Matt 2:23 “...and He came and resided in a city called Nazareth, that what was spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled: ‘He shall be called a Nazarene”

Luke 2:51-52 “And He went down with them, and came to Nazareth; and He continued in subjection to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.”

Both of these accounts are immediately followed by the account of John the Baptist,

implying Jesus’ baptism was the next significant event in Jesus’ life. If Jesus had traveled to the East it would have been a critical theological event and would not have been left out of the historical record. Jesus’ earlier trip to Egypt as an infant (Man 2:13-15) was included.

Other references tell us that the townspeople of Nazareth were taken aback at Jesus’ wisdom as He preached. The implication is that He grew up in their midst as a normal Jewish boy. Also, they were amazed at the Messianic emphasis of His ministry. This was an entirely new element.
