THE WAITING GAME?

Do you have the patience to wait?  The Bible says, in John 11:5-7 that “…..although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, he stayed where he was for the next two days and did not go to them. Finally, after two days, he said to his disciples, "Let's go to Judea again."   Mary and Martha had sent their friend Jesus a message about the critical condition of their brother, Lazarus, and their urgent need for his help: "Lord, the one you love is very sick" (John 11:3). But instead of rushing off to Bethany, Jesus stayed where he was for two days before responding to Mary and Martha's plea. When he did arrive, he raised Lazarus from the dead in a magnificent display of his power.

Just as Mary and Martha struggled when Jesus answered their prayers for Lazarus in a time and way different from what they had expected, we get frustrated when the Lord delays in coming to us and answering our prayers.

As it did for the grieving sisters, two days (or two months or two years) of waiting can seem like an eternity to us. But in the midst of the "delay," God is not inactive. He is teaching us patience, perseverance, and faith and is planning to glorify himself in our circumstances. While we are waiting, he wants to cleanse our hearts and refocus us on Jesus. The Spirit always knows what will glorify God, and we can trust him when we're in the waiting room.

Jesus tells us to “Be still and know that I AM God”

A short prayer:  LORD, help me to wait for you in hope and perseverance, knowing that you will come. Grant me patience and faith in the waiting room of life yet to be.

INTERESTING QUOTE:     Until we grasp the message of the Cross, we will never understand who God is and what He is like. Before the Cross, there seemed to be a conflict between God's love and His justice. His love longed to provide unconditional salvation for all sinners, and yet His justice demanded that a penalty be paid for sin. Although He lovingly yearned to embrace mankind, His righteousness would not allow Him to look upon our sin. At the Cross, justice and love became one, as God remained holy and yet provided a way for sinful men and women to join Him forever.     Author Unknown

CREATION/EVOLUTION

Question: Does it matter what we believe (continued).

Death came from one man’s sin.

Gen 1:31 says: “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.  So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”

Let’s use some logic here.  If as per evolution there were hundreds of millions and may be billions of years of death with animal killing animal, would God really look at His Creation and call it very good? (The word “very” in Hebrew, me’od, means “exceedingly”)  Therefore God said in Gen 1:31 “indeed it was exceedingly good”  It’s not likely!

Where is the first sign of death in the Bible?  It comes after the sins of Adam and Eve.  God “killed an animal and made a covering for Adam and Eve.  Gen 3:21 “…for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.”

Some might say we kill plants.  So what’s the difference?  Let’s look at the difference between plants and humans.

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Gen 1:29-30 And God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.   Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food"; and it was so.   God never breathed life into plants.

Plants wither and fade, in the Bible they don’t die.

Job 8:11-12 Can the reeds flourish without water?  While it is yet green and not cut down, it withers before any other plant.

Isa 17:11  In the day you will make your plant to grow, and in the morning you will make your seed to flourish; But the harvest will be a heap of ruins.

Jer 24:6  “…. and I will plant them and not pluck them up.”

Jonah 4:10 But the LORD said, "You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night.

Matt 15:13  "Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.”

Plants and the animals kingdom including us humans were created and it was very good!

IS THE BIBLE RELIABLE?

To continue with Archeology:

Even though the Hittites are mentioned 47 times in the Bible, scholars doubted that they existed because no historical evidence of such people had been found.  Then in 1876, Hugo Winckler uncovered 5 temples and 10,000 clay tablets, when deciphered showed the Hittits did really exist in the area described in the Bible.

Also, the location of Christ’s trial, the “Pool of Bathesda” and the fact that there was a “census” at the time of Christ and that Quirinus was governor have all been verified with archeological discoveries.

An excavation, by Avraham Biram and his team of archeologists in early 1990 at Tel Dan, near the foot of Mt. Hermon, found a remarkable inscription from the ninth century B.C.  The inscription refers to both the “House of David” and the “King of Israel”.  During excavations from 1956 to 1962 James Pritchard found jars inscribed with the word Gibeon, a town north of Jerusalem.  This find verifies the Bible account that “David” and the town Gibeon actually existed.

In 1902, John Peters found a tomb with an inscription “Maresha”, a town mentioned in Joshua 15:44.. It was once claimed there was no Assyrian king named Sargon as recorded in Isaiah 20:1, because this name was not known in any other record. Then, Sargon's palace was discovered in Khorsabad, Iraq.

THE LIFE OF CHRIST:   This is a certificate class on the web site under Bible Institute Studies.

Let’s discuss more about the myth that Jesus went to India:

·         The expense and distance make such a trip unlikely.

This kind of travel would have been extremely difficult for a youngster. The distances that had to be covered were incredible for anyone in that time, adult or child, given the methods of transportation. In addition, Jesus came from an extremely poor family who could not afford the incredible expenses a trip like that would incur.

·         Gentile culture was repugnant to Jews.

At that time in history Jewish involvement with Gentiles was strictly limited. Non-

Jewish culture was repugnant to a Hebraic (as opposed to Hellenistic) Jew.

Jesus would have little cultural tolerance for living in the midst of idol worshiping Gentiles

      in India.

·         Jesus taught Judaism, not Hinduism.

Theologically, Jesus’ teaching was completely antithetical to the world view of eastern religions. His theology was thoroughly grounded on a Hebraic concept of God and reality. Jesus continued to refer to the Old Testament, indicating His respect for the Law and the prophets and the God of Israel. In fact, He kept the Law impeccably. He never quoted or even alluded to the Vedas.

·         Conclusion:

Every shred of hard evidence we have places Jesus in the land of Israel for His entire life except the brief sojourn in Egypt (which the historical accounts are careful to note).

Folks in Israel were talking about Jesus:

In Luke 4:22 ““And all were speaking well of Him, and wondering at the gracious words which were falling from His lips; and they were saying, ‘Is this not Joseph’s son?”’

And in Matt 13:54-5 6  “And coming to His home town [i.e. the place where He grew up] He began teaching them in their synagogue, so that they became astonished, and said, ‘Where did this man get this wisdom, and these miraculous powers? Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? Where then did this man get all these things?”’      The summary is ------- Jesus is God!!
